How do you "master" your music and the steps u take to master does it depend on the type of project and end result u desire?
The process of creating binaural beats music is different for each project that I take on. The intention driving the creation of Aurora was to produce an ambient soundscape that is completely relaxing, calm and above all else, safe. In order to achieve this degree of safety, there can be no tension in the music. The challenge, then, is to merge this tension-free music with brainwave entrainment that doesn’t knock y’all out.
I decided to center the music around the Solfeggio 528Hz, a frequency only 4.75 Hz away from C5. Aurora isn’t just a pure 528 Hz sine wave, it’s music and there are notes, which means that synthesizers were calibrated to 528Hz or individual notes were retuned relative to the 528Hz frequency.
Using a free program called Gnaural, I then created a 5 band binaural beats program that guides the listener into deeper and deeper states of consciousness. 5 minutes before the end of the music, I gently ramp the frequencies back up to an Alpha state.
The problem came in the testing phase, when I discovered that almost everyone was falling asleep at precisely 18 minutes into the piece. I could add in a Beta waking-tone every now and then, but Beta frequencies can trigger the “fight or flight” response in some listeners, so I decided on Gamma, which has other benefits.
I added in a 3-band Gamma Oscillation that cycles into the music about every nine minutes. During the second testing phase, I found that this was sufficient to keep listeners alert, focused and stimulated while maintaining the safe state of relaxation that I desired.
On Twitter, Alex said that “…by blending-in Gamma, the unobstructed attentiveness is achieved without change to a flow.”
Well said, good sir. Well said.
